A Father’s way, a baseball day
After dropping the first game of the series at US Cellular Park to the White Sox, we turned it around and took the series. We barely managed to take the series–Matt Holliday bobbled that bottom nine, two out, bases loaded ball and made my heart stop. This is the fourth series in a row that we have won. Although we are still 13 games below .500, we are only 8.5 games out! The funny thing to me is that we are more in the NL west race than the Wild Card race. Before we hit the All Star break we could take second place! I am astounded by these numbers and figures. After our more than miserable start out of the gates it looks like we have a chance. The unfortunate thing is that we have already put ourselves in a hole and now have to dig ourselves out, on the upside the other teams in the NL West are not doing so well. Yesterday we were the only team in our division to win our game.
Tonight we have a makeup game against the Atlanta Braves, if we win it we will have our first sweep of the season. On top of getting some momentum it looks like we will be getting our team back together soon. Tulo was initially looking at a comeback after the All Star break. Now he has just finished his primary rehab assignment with the Modesto Nuts and will be in Denver today to get checked out. If all goes well then he will head over to the Sky Sox and finish up his rehab. There is a chance that he could be back with the Rockies on Friday against the Mets. I look forward to his return like it’s my birthday or Christmas. I feel like once Tulo and Barmes are back our team will be complete and when all the puzzles pieces are in place we will have a serious case for making a run. I am more excited than words could express. My excitement is brimming over, I am ready and waiting.
In other news, Father’s day was yesterday. I went to Fort Collins to see my Papa Bear. My mother and I still aren’t speaking, but my dad and I had a fun day. We watched the Rockies game, the US Open and the NBA Finals. Discovering my love of sports just recently has created a new relationship with my dad. We have a million more things to talk about now. We never had a strained relationship and with two sons my dad never had a shortage of people to talk about sports with, but this new found dynamic has offered us a stronger relationship. It is a great feeling as a daughter, my father’s only daughter, to be able to share something with my dad that we both care about and understand. My overwhelming love of sports could not have come sooner than Father’s Day. Papa Bear, I love you, thank you for giving me the greatest love; Baseball.
So I’ll wrap this one up in a hurry with my thoughts.
- How does Paul Pierce get 38 points and still give the Lakers a win?
- Boston is still going to take the NBA Finals, 6 games.
- With Matt Holliday and Scott Podsednik being held as trade bait, we have something good coming our way. Hey Dan, did you hear C.C. Sabathia is also on the block?
- Tiger Woods goes from phenom to one-legged phenom, that man cannot be stopped
- How did the Miguel Tejada age business blow over so quickly?
- I’m looking forward to all the football teams locking in their players so all this running back drama blows over.
